The Annual Eko Theatre Carnival kicks off on Monday, August 3 and ends on Sunday, August 9, 2020. It is a truism that when the rhythm changes, the sane must also change their dance.
Therefore, the 2020 edition of the Eko Theater Carnival shall
be a combination of a ‘minimized Real’ and ‘maximized Virtual’. A Real_Tual.
Over a period of 7 days, 21 different companies shall be serving varieties of artistic offerings to satiate your appetite.
This year, as with previous years, we have invited two distinguished guest speakers who have excelled in their chosen professional careers, to give us a sip from their boundless well of wisdom.
Our Day One (Monday, August 3) Guest Speaker is a seasoned scholar and practitioner, the immediate past Dean, Postgraduate School of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, and current Honourable Commissioner for Arts, Culture, and Tourism in Ekiti State, Professor Rasaki Ojo Bakare. He shall be leading a discourse on * NIGERIAN THEATRE IN THE AGE OF PANDEMIC.*
The session shall be moderated by Dr. Funmi Adewole, a lecturer at De Montfort University, Leicester England. She is also a dance scholar, writer, storytelling artist and dramaturge. In 2019, she was awarded a life-time achievement award for contributions to Dance of the African Diaspora by One Dance UK, the UK National body for Dance.
This session promises to be an engaging and enriching encounter judging by his pedigree.
Our Day Two (Tuesday, August 4) Guest Speaker is by no means a man of less impressive stature. He is the one and only inimitable Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome a.k.a Ali Baba, Grand Comedian of the Federal Republic (GCFR). He was specifically chosen for this cause, due to his firm belief in collective growth. Ali Baba’s philosophy is that the business of comedy is big enough to accommodate all who are determined to make a successful career out of it. To this end, he supports, and mentors several comedians. He also ensures that a high standard of professionalism is maintained. Ali Baba shall be discussing Entrepreneurship and the Arts. This session shall be moderated by Princess Damilola Adekoya, better known as Princess in the Stand Up Comedy industry.
Also lined up for these 7 days of ETC are the works of brilliant playwrights, directors, choreographers, actors, musicians, dancers and visual artists.
The 2020 edition of ETC shall reach you wherever you are through virtual presence. However, we have 20 tickets to sell for each day of the festival. Not more than 20 per day so early booking is advised. A ticket and your personal face mask are all you need to gain entrance into our Centre, the festival venue. All other health and safety protocols shall be handled by us.
